Pavement life expectancy and maintenance requirements are of critical importance to public works directors and airport managers. Paying close attention to pavement condition and applying overlays on a timely basis will prolong pavement life and avoid costly pavement replacements. To best address pavement serviceability concerns, HWA has now acquired a portable Falling Weight Deflectometer (FWD) to provide in-situ measurements of pavement deflections under varying simulated traffic loads. Combined with measurements of pavement component thicknesses, state-of-the-art mechanistic design computer software allows us to determine subgrade resilient moduli (MR). Given reliable design traffic information for the facility, we can then make reliable estimates of expected pavement life, overlay requirements, and design thickness requirements of new pavement sections.
While FWD testing and mechanistic pavement analyses are superior tools for modeling pavement response and design needs, HWA also has the capabilities to conduct a complete pavement economic analysis of your infrastructure. This pavement management service will allow you to determine when it is cost effective to apply pavement overlays to extend roadway life. When combined with our expertise in pavement mix design and field quality control testing, HWA can now meet all your pavement needs.
