First Avenue South - Phase 2

HWA completed a geotechnical and pavement engineering study along a segment of 1st Avenue South, between SW 146th Street and SW 138th Street, in Burien, Washington.

Our investigation consisted of evaluating the existing pavement and subgrade conditions along the alignment and providing recommendations for pavement reconstruction/rehabilitation alternatives, traffic signal pole foundation design, retaining wall design recommendations and infiltration potential. HWA conducted field reconnaissance, Falling Weight Deflectometer (FWD) testing, pavement coring, drilling and logging 12 boreholes, engineering analyses, and preparation of a detailed engineering report summarizing the investigation results and our recommendations. HWA also assessed the potential for encountering contaminated soils and/or ground water during subsurface explorations and/or construction activities associated with this project.
