Alex Hodges
Laboratory Supervisor
In the last 3 years, Alex has conducted and overseen a wide spectrum of materials acceptance tests and geotechnical testing programs. He currently supervises day-to-day laboratory operations at HWA and conducts advanced soil tests including soil strength, permeability, and consolidation testing for a variety of projects.
Alex followed his love for the outdoors and graduated from Western Washington University in 2020 with a degree in geology, attributing his interest to a professor who enlightened him to the delicate balance of living and building on glacial soils.
Alex enjoys the fast pace of construction season and the endless opportunities to learn in this field, as so many different types of work pass through HWA’s lab, it requires the team to get creative and apply their combined experiences to new applications.
Motivated by the contributions to major public works projects that HWA’s team makes, Alex says “there is something surreal about driving across a new embankment knowing we ran strength tests and classified the soils for engineers to make the proper recommendations for a safe structure.”
