Saul Cortez, EIT
Geotechnical Engineer-In-Training

Saul is a geotechnical engineer in training who supports a wide range of projects including buildings, roadways, bridges, retaining structures and storm and wastewater facilities and performs geotechnical site investigations, drilling, inspections and construction monitoring. Additionally, Saul has experience in laboratory and field-testing of soils, concrete and asphalt and is moving towards his professional certification.

For most of his life, Saul’s path was following an education within STEM. His focus slowly narrowed down to the field of geotechnical engineering with each subject throughout his studies and he completed his master’s degree in civil engineering from the University of Washington in 2023.

Saul has the mindset of “learning by doing” and enjoys applying all his studies in his work on various projects. He is inspired by knowing that the projects he works on helps the community and he enjoys working for a good cause to support and enrich infrastructure.

Saul’s favorite part about working for HWA is the interconnectedness of the staff and the positive, unique environment. He loves connecting with his co-workers and appreciates the opportunities to learn from each other!

  • Baking - he loves experimenting with new recipes and bringing them into the office for feedback, he dreams to have his own line of sweets one day!
