HWA is proud to have provided materials testing and inspection services alongside Keller Associates Inc., for the City of Clarkston Bridge/Diagonal/2nd Street Roundabout Project.
For years, the intersection of Bridge Street (US-12), Diagonal Street, and 2nd Street was Clarkston’s most dangerous and congested location. Five legs converged at a signalized intersection plagued by long delays, confusing traffic patterns, and the highest crash rate in the City. Fixing it wasn’t simple—tight property lines, nearby businesses and structures, and heavy traffic made traditional solutions such as widening roads or adding signals impractical.
The benefits are immediate and lasting and the community has noticed the difference: safety has dramatically improved, congestion is reduced, and travel times are distinctly shorter. ADA-compliant sidewalks, energy-efficient lighting, and upgraded signage make the intersection accessible and sustainable. Economically, the roundabout lowers long-term maintenance costs compared to signals, saving taxpayer dollars. Socially, it reconnects the community—improving mobility for residents, visitors, and freight while supporting local businesses!
